Prices
range from $100 to $225 for a basic to boutique hotel.
Condos
Full kitchen, separate bedrooms and living area make condos ideal
for many travelers. Modest to luxury accommodations are available. Prices
range from $155 - $800. Ask about studios with kitchenettes.
Resorts
Full amenities can include a spa, workout center, fine dining, elite concierge
service, in-room mini bar, entertainment center, spa bathroom, and children's
programs. Large pools with waterslides and jacuzzis are often featured.
Tennis, putting greens, and golf are some of the many activities you can
enjoy. Rates vary from $260 to $800. Suites are available upon request.
Vacation Rentals
After you've been to the islands a few times, you may decide to stay
in your
favorite area that is away from the hotel scene.
Vacation rentals vary
tremendously from small bed and breakfasts to private
homes with pools and gourmet kitchens.
Expect to provide
a security deposit, which is refundable, and there may be
additional cleaning fees.
Room with a View
Consider the differences
in categories. The best view commands the highest dollar.
As a rule, hotels
will give you the best room they have in your category. If
your room is not what you expected, before you unpack inquire if there
is a
better room in your category or if you can upgrade. An upgrade will cost
you money, but you might find it worth it.
Ocean Front:
When you look out your window from inside your room, you see the ocean.
Ocean View:
You may see ocean from one or some of the windows, but it may be partially
obscured. When you go out on your lanai (balcony), you'll
probably see more ocean.
Partial Ocean View:
There is a slice of blue to be seen, but you may have to go out on your
lanai to appreciate it.
Mountain View:
Usually mountain view rooms are on the back side of the
hotel, facing away from the ocean. In a Waikiki hotel room, a mountain
view
will be on a higher floor so you see over top the buildings.
Garden or Scenic
View: Located on the lower floors, most have views of the lushness
and foliage for which Hawaii is famous. Occasionally a parking lot is
included in the view!
City View:
As the name suggests, you'll see other buildings, or perhaps the
city street below you. If you plan on being active and seldom in your
room,
this might be your best choice.
Superior vs. Standard
View: Generally the superior view rooms are higher
floors than the standard view rooms and realistically, there's no
view to
speak of, other than buildings.
How many in your party?
State fire codes dictate the number of people allowed per room and they
are
strictly enforced. When planning your vacation, infants are included in
the
'head count'.
Hotel rooms generally
hold a maximum of 4 people, but there are some that
will hold only 2 or 3.
A 1-bedroom condo
holds 4 people, a 2-bedroom up to 6 people and a 3-bedroom condo usually
accommodates up to 8 people.
Ask about rates for
more than two adults in any hotel room.
